cute coconut... BAD COCONUT!!

today one of our customers brought her adorable little maltese puppy into our store. she asked if it was ok, and i thought it would be fine. after all, how much trouble could such a cute little puppy cause?

coconut was a good dog. she stayed on top of one of our chairs where she was told to stay. but then she got restless, and jumped down so that she could run around the room.

next thing i knew, she had peed all over the train of the sample dress that our customer was trying on. we cleaned it up and fortunately it didn't stain. but still... i hope my customer decides to buy that dress!!

i'm still here!

it's been a while since my last post but i'll still try to keep my xanga alive!

not much to say right now though.. except one quick thing about work.

why is it that people always walk into the bridal salon, underneath a sign saying "bridal" and ask me, "do you sell wedding gowns?"

um... when you're in a big room surrounded on all sides by racks of white gowns, pictures of models in wedding gowns, and bridal magazines everywhere, how can you think we sell anything else?

a bugging issue

we just found cockroach #2 tonight. it's trapped under a glass cup (which i will probably never be able to use again). and we're not sure what exactly is the best way to kill it. i tried transferring it from the cup to a ziplock bag so that we could spray raid in it, and then i freaked out when it almost crawled out of the bag and the cup.

i really hope this isn't an ongoing problem... i'm going to have to talk to the apartment manager about it. and if it gets worse, we HAVE to move out cuz i can't deal with these bugs! sigh... this place is so much nicer than our old place, but who knew it would have a bug problem?

i have managed to find some cool websites as a result of this issue though. you can read them if you're bored or if you're not in the middle of eating lunch:

http://www.whatsthatbug.com/

http://ohmyapt.apartmentratings.com/how-to-kill-cockroaches.html

it is pretty amusing reading other people's bug problems and their solutions to kill them.

job satisfaction

i know. it's been a while since i posted. we're getting near the end of the busy wedding season. this is the time of year when brides pick up their gowns, get alterations done, and freak out if any little thing goes wrong with the alterations. it's been pretty stressful trying to make sure everything is as perfect as possible for those extremely picky brides. it would be the end of the world if there was a loose bead or a spot nearly invisible to the naked eye on their gown!

we've also had lots of brides with weddings next year coming in to start their gown shopping. some of them have required a lot of patience. if there could be a "customer review" website, i would have fun writing about these funny customers. imagine this conversation:

me: here are our bridesmaid dresses. they go from this rack (pointing to the rack on the far left of the wall) to this rack (pointing to the rack on the far right).
customer: oh ok. (heads over to another wall)
me: oh those gowns over there are evening gowns.
customer: oh. where are the bridesmaid dresses?
me: they're from this rack with the pink dresses (again pointing to the rack on far left of the wall) to the rack with the black dresses (again pointing to the rack on far right).
customer: oh ok. (looks back at the evening gowns) um.. can you show me where the bridesmaid dresses start again?

few minutes later...

me: here is our swatch book, and the bridesmaid dress that you chose can be ordered in the colors shown on this page.
customer: (looks at page with 50 swatch colors) oh. you mean i can't choose another color that's not on this page?
me: no sorry, the dress only comes in the colors on this page.
customer: that's it? that's all the colors i can choose from?
me: yes, hopefully you can find one there that is close to what you're looking for.
customer: can i choose another color from another page?

today, however, was one of those days at work when your job seems to be totally worth it. we had a special event at our store, and a lot of brides bought gowns today - we sold more today than we have ever sold in one day! what was so special, though, wasn't so much the fact that we sold a lot of gowns. it was seeing how thankful and happy everyone was.

there was a bride who brought her entire family, grandparents, and bridesmaids to see her try on dresses. they had brought champagne and it was like a huge party in the fitting room when she decided on her gown.

then there was an older bride whose second wedding was in less than a month. she had originally planned on buying a short simple white dress to get married in but her fiance had been disappointed to hear that she wasn't getting married in an actual wedding gown. within 10 minutes of walking into our store, we helped her find a gown that she fell in love with, and we were able to sell it to her off the rack, since she did not have time to order a new one. she was so thankful and it was fulfilling to be able to help her in that way.

and at the end of the day, we received two new reviews on the consumer review site, www.yelp.com. they were both so positive and from brides who were so happy - it was really encouraging! of course, they might be a bit more picky and stressed when we see them again in a few months, but at least for now everyone's happy!

on a completely different tangent, check out some bugs we've found in our apartment. they're on jer's xanga. soooo gross!

makes you want to come over and visit, doesn't it?

an upgrade? already?

since being married to jer, i've discovered that he talks a lot in his sleep. i'm a pretty light sleeper, so it always wakes me up when i hear him mumbling or laughing in his sleep. one night i woke up with a scare when he shouted, "SO HIGH TECH!" and then he quickly fell into a deep quiet sleep, while i struggled to fall asleep again.

we recently got a larger bed, and while i like the space it gives us, it kind of makes jer seem further away when we're sleeping. the other night i woke up and moved to be closer to him. however, as i snuggled up to him, he said clearly in his sleep, "i want an upgrade!"

hehe.. i wonder what my husband dreams about...
